“THE OLD BRAND NEW”
It is common practice to use the first paycheck/s to treat ourselves and loved ones. Which is what I did:I got my first car, a 1987 Mitsubishi Lancer GT also known as The Lancer Boxtype.
I got a lot of flak from this; its rusty & deteriorating appearance seemed to have no potential. Friends and family were against my decision to fix it, telling me I was better off buying a new model. Still, I persisted.
I joined car clubs and shows with the intention of getting info for car parts, but I got more. I met people who shared the same passion who quickly became friends. With their help, I was able to start up my car’s restoration. Piece by piece, I saw my dream finally taking shape. A rusty old junk car, returning to its brand new form.
In 2010, my fully restored Mitsubishi Lancer rolled out of the “talyer”. I immediately joined several car shows such as the San Beda Car Show 2010, the Manila International Auto Show 2010 and the 2010 UP Rev Up Car Show, bagging 1st place in the Best Classic Modified Category. People were really starting to appreciate the car, even getting offers to buy it.
Today, I use my car for my daily commute and even as a service car for my family. It really has taken me places and I can’t wait to see where it will further take me. That is what makes my car, aptly named Phoenix, sulit.
